Heatley v. Hossa

There are two ways that this trade can viewed; both short and long term. In the short term the clear winner of this trade is the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers are bringing one of the most underrated players in the NHL who has .835 ppg average, and trading a player (although beloved by Thrashers fans) that desperately needed and wanted a change of scenery. Marian may not be as sexy a name as Heatley but Marian is no slouch when it comes to overall skill. I would even argue that he is a bit more tenacious and difficult to knock off the puck than Dany. The obvious reason the Thrashers are considered the short term winner is the uncertainty of Heatley's overall health and the questions of whether he can return to form. If he cannot re-gain the potential and flash he showed pre-accident, then the Thrashers will have benefited the most.

Long term:
If Dany Heatley can regain his form, then I like the Senators for taking a gamble on him. Marian Hossa, IMO, is one of the elite forwards in the NHL (top 8-10 in my book), and trading him takes a lot of courage, but if there is one guy that could potentially be worth it, Heatley could very well be it.

Should be fun to watch both of these guys with their new clubs.
